Sometimes I think the internet has become one big spam portal. More and more sites I visit have got annoying pop up adverts and flash banners. Ranging from hotmail to simple information sites, you can pretty much guarantee that you will encounter at least three advertisements for matchmaking, free dating, flirt online, etc.

I understand how viral marketing works but it takes the biscuit when it is on every site and especially sites that are not even relevant to that market. Surely the marketing manager responsible for ad planning should actually conduct appropriate research into the market first.

It’s not just the internet though; it’s also spread to become mobile. When you sign up for ringtones or wallpapers on your mobile, you will now and again get these same ads in text form to your mobile. It really is infuriating as these are not targeted at all.

It’s just spam. It’s wrong. It’s an invasion of your privacy and if you have very jealous partners it can get you into a lot of trouble.
