Whilst playing with a work colleagues brand new iPhone 3G, i couldnt help but notice that within the 2 hour time period he had the phone for, there was already a multitude of applications that have been preloaded on there.
I couldnt help but notice that they were all entertainment applications. One such program was a virtual piano. I cant really see the point of that one. I mean where would you see fit to use that, other than show off the touch screen technology and even on that point i have to say that it wasnt the most responsive of displays.
To be perfectly honest, i was never much for touchscreen devices as i was quite happy with my BlackBerry Curve. All i use it for is emails, texts, calls and internet usage and i have to say that it outperforms any phone ive ever had. Battery life is superb and usability is excellent. However my mind was changed when i saw the forthcoming BlackBerry Storm. The fact this was a RIM device and it had the first clickable touchscreen display was excellent and music to my ears and i think it is enough to actually change my mind.
Dont get me wrong i would love to have a dabble at Windows Mobile 6 phones, but there arnt any that really grab my attention. The only one that sort of leapt out was the HTC Touch Diamond but this is laden with crappy bugs and shit battery life. This sort of defeats the object of being an everyday smartphone. Even the battery on the iPhone is completley shite too. Not really a problem on BlackBerry handsets, its what there well known for in the industry.
There is a phone due out soon called the HTC Touch HD which is similar size to the iPhone and Storm and supposedly has a brilliant battery as well having a superb interface courtesty of WM6 and TouchFLO. My contract is up soon so i will have to make a decision on the next phone choice.
