o2 XDA Serra coming soon

Well imagine my surprise when i went into my local o2 shop on Sunday and browsed their latest catalogue and saw that the o2 XDA Serra will be coming soon. There were some detailed specs and some good pictures too. For those that don’t know, the o2 XDA Serra is basically the HTC Touch Pro.

I was told by staff in the store that the phone will be released in the first week of November. However, when I checked the o2 forums I found an exact date, Monday 3rd November.

HTC Touch Cruise gets Windows Mobile 6.1 update

Just a little bit of news to brighten up your Sunday. The HTC Touch Cruise has now been given an upgrade to Windows mobile 6.1. Sadly it is only valid for handsets bought direct from HTC or those that have been unlocked.

Basically the update fixes some Bluetooth issues, particulary headset conflicts. It also solves some keyboard and title bar problems. Other minor bugs within the camera, GPS, radio and TouchFLO functions have been sorted out too.

Blackberry Storm to be unique to Vodafone and Verizon

After weeks of speculation and rumours, the Blackberry Storm has been officially announced. It is to be sold by Vodafone in Europe and Verizon Wireless in the USA. The Blackberry Storm is one of the first touch screen devices from RIM. It has a nice new interface and if you look around you will find some good demo videos showing the phone off a treat.

So will this be Blackberry’s answer to the iPhone? Well probably not totally as the iPhone actually had Wi-Fi and this phone does not. So really theres a letdown right there.

Blackberry Curve 8900 has Wi-Fi and GPS

RIM has a habit of creating brilliant phones recently and the Blackberry Curve 8900 is no exception to this. The phone appeared on a German T-Mobile site along with a huge spec sheet. The downside is that this model doesn’t have 3G; however all of the usual features are taken care of.

The camera on the 8900 is the only unknown. We think it will possibly be a 2 megapixel as seen on the original Curve. But to be fair, Blackberry won’t be focusing too much on this as their phones aren’t sold for multimedia functionality.

RIM expects Q3 revenue of £1.75bn

Research In Motion (RIM) have announced that it is expecting revenue in Q3 to be around £1.75bn. In the last 3 months RIM has increased its users by 2.6 million.

In this period, revenue was up 15% compared to the same time period last year. A total of 82% of revenue came from the phones, whilst 13% came from services and a further 3% from software. Net income for the quarter was $495.5 million compared to $482.5 million in the previous quarter.
