Palm set to announce new OS

As Palm looks at getting themselves back into the limelight, there are rumors flying round. Apparently Palm are looking at debuting their new OS which is codenamed Nova and possibly some new devices too.

The new OS, otherwise known as Palm OS II is aiming to get the best of both worlds, business and multimedia. Palm hope that they will exploit areas other mobile phones have failed to work on. Currently there isn’t a phone that can cater for all users needs.

O2 Germany debuts XDA Guide

O2 in Germany have announced a new phone to its XDA line up. Following in the footsteps of the O2 XDA Orbit 2 comes the XDA Guide. Initially it seems like it is based on the HTC Touch 3G.

The new phone comes with built in GPS and TomTom Navigator as well as maps of Europe. It also comes with a swanky car kit making it ideal for businesses. Hardware wise there is a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor and 256 MB of RAM. There is also 512 MB of ROM that is microSD expandable.

Microsoft release Seadragon for the iPhone

Wait for it. Microsoft has released their first application for the Apple iPhone called Seadragon. This application lets iPhone users look at high resolution pictures and zoom in on them over the internet.

This must surely leave a bitter taste for the Windows Mobile users. They have the built in pictures and videos application but that doesnt help things as it is essentially crap and slows to a crawl if you have more than 12 photos.

Annoying online and mobile adverts

Sometimes I think the internet has become one big spam portal. More and more sites I visit have got annoying pop up adverts and flash banners. Ranging from hotmail to simple information sites, you can pretty much guarantee that you will encounter at least three advertisements for matchmaking, free dating, flirt online, etc.

I understand how viral marketing works but it takes the biscuit when it is on every site and especially sites that are not even relevant to that market. Surely the marketing manager responsible for ad planning should actually conduct appropriate research into the market first.

Garmin Nuvifone passes FCC

Nuvifone is Garmins first attempt at a mobile phone and has passed all of the FCC tests. The phone is a full touch screen device with Garmins custom navigation interface. The phone initially made headlines in January this year.

The phone is manufactured by Asus and is codenamed “Calf” so we can reveal that there will be a 3.5” touchscreen display, built in GPS and a camera with geo-tagging. There is also HSDPA support available.

Vodafone releases HTC Diamond software upgrade

Vodafone have recently released an update for the HTC Touch Diamond. It basically fixes performance issues that have been discovered and also give extra functionality too apparently.

As you know the HTC Touch Diamond has been plagued with battery problems as well as some bugs in the software that have for some made it unusable in a business capacity. Let’s hope the update makes this phone what it should be, a brilliant Windows Mobile device.

Many sites have been doing unboxing videos on new products for a while, but these have really begun to take off in a big way and this has not gone unnoticed by the BBC who has actually written an article about their popularity.

Essentially they can become extremely good link bait for your site. What this means is that your video becomes very popular and more and more people link to it on your site and suddenly you have a spike in traffic.

BBC iPlayer on two Windows Mobile phones

The BBC has set their iPlayer up to work with the Samsung Omnia and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. The service allows TV licence fee payers to catch up with programmes on demand and watch live TV.

The BBC says that at first they will only support a few handsets, namely the Omnia and the Xperia, both of which are Windows mobile devices. The Sony Ericsson C905 will be supported from next week with more coming over the next few months.

Google Android running smooth on HTC Touch

Just a quick blog, but very cool indeed. There is a video which shows the Google Android platform running extremely smoothly on an HTC Touch. This really is amazing. Internet browsing is a dream, email and smooth animation is absolutley amazing. In the video, you just have to restart to get back to good ol’ Windows.

I really am looking forward to an official release of this as it is much better than Windows and the powerful software really compliments the powerful hardware of the phone.

Google to release unlocked G1 for developers

Google are releasing an unlocked version of the G1 which includes bootloader that allows flashing of custom Android OS versions. The Android Dev Phone 1 will be available to all developers that are registered at the Android Market.

This release is really a step towards making the OS as open source as possible. It will cost $399 and free shipping within the US. To own one you have to have a developers registration at the Android Market which is around $25 as a one off fee.
